Cancer doesn’t ask for permission. It shows up — uninvited — and touches every one of our lives. At this point, it’s not a question of if, but when. According to Canadian Cancer Statistics, 2 in 5 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. 1 in 4 will die from it.

For me, it started early. I lost my grandfather to lung cancer when I was just 12. A year later, cancer took my grandmother too — bone cancer. That was my first introduction to this disease. I didn’t fully understand it back then, but I felt the impact. And now, 25 years later, it’s back in my life in a way that hits even harder. My father-in-law, just 64 years old and once strong as an ox, is fighting Stage 4 prostate cancer. It’s been a brutal journey.

Over the past two years, I’ve watched two of our company’s early employees — close friends of mine — lose their mothers to cancer. Both were in their 60s. It’s devastating, but it’s also a reminder: this is real, and it’s relentless.

But here’s the thing — we’re closer than ever to a breakthrough. Advances in health and technology are moving faster than we’ve ever seen before. I truly believe that in our lifetime, we’ll see a cure.
